Shelukha is a Russian word meaning "husk". It describes the layered peel on seeds or turnips.

In this project, it’s the metaphor for social things people do to hide their true selves and play some conventional role. And though this armor can be shiny and attractive itself, the truest beauty is sincere, and lies beneath.

Materials: silver 925, copper, silver plating, amethyst.

The base of the ring was cast from sterling silver, then wrapped in foil forming many petals, and then metal plated twice: with copper and then with silver. This was a very experimental project, with many insights about combining technologies, and how even 0.01mm can drastically change the whole look of a piece.

Behind the scenes

To create this ring, I experimented with various types of foil, crumpling aluminum foil of different thicknesses and studying the outcome. Later I turned to copper foil, which is even thicker, due to its easiness to work with when it comes to electroforming.
