Mein Gott, hilf mir... Prayer beads, 2025
Mein Gott, hilf mir, diese tödliche Liebe zu überleben | Господи! Помоги мне выжить среди этой смертной любви*
This artwork is dedicated:
To Russian deserters, having to mutilate themselves to refuse to fight and kill. To political prisoners, incarcerated for their beliefs by the autocratic regime. To anti-war activists in exile, protected only by a flimsy promise they won’t be sent home; to those who were sent home. To people having to survive the dictatorship machine while it buys tear gas from its most vocal opponents. To those trying to fix the nightmare their country caused, only to become un-belonging in every corner of the world.
Let us pray, for there is nothing else left when no action can bring you safety. Let us pray, for we need every last bit of strength and hope to keep doing the right thing.
* The name references the graffiti by Dmitri Vrubel on the Berlin wall, written in Russian and German on each side of the traditional Orthodox four-leafed cross.
