Burnt, 2020

None of the moths in this ring is unharmed. Some miss a whole wing. Some wings are tattered and burned. They struggle — and yet they hold on to life. They don’t fall down, slowly dwelling on their descent to the ground. They are fragile. Still, they have strength to live on.

I made this ring when I was in a dark place. Some events lead to me feeling exhausted and devastated, and I had to somehow explain to myself a concept of carrying on through hard times and after. I was thinking a lot about people going through much, much worse events — events making you think "Is there a point living after this? What kind of life that would be?". I thought about the worst possible things human history knows, leading to people spending years of their only life in struggle and suffering.

And even after being this damaged, people choose to live. Does there need to be any more proof that life is precious?

Materials: silver 925, citrine.
